Why Resona Exists
Streaming initially offered the solution to the growing rise in illegal downloads that was crippling the industry, it was also meant to democratise music and put every artist on a level playing field, giving fans unlimited access to the music they love. In reality, it has done the opposite. The current model rewards mass streaming and major label dominance, which leaves everyone else with scraps.
Most streaming platforms use some form of a pro rata payment model. This means that all subscription revenue goes into one large pool of money that is divided up based on total global streams.
This means that your subscription money goes towards all artists, not just the ones you like and listen to.
Meanwhile, because this model heavily favours big artists and major labels, the artists you actually listen to earn pennies.
With Resona we are fixing that.
We use a user centric model, meaning your subscription money is split between the artists you listen to – and no one else. If you listen to an artist 80% of the time, they’ll get 80% of what is left after basic operational costs and licensing. Simple, fair, and transparent.
We will always make it clear how your money is divided – no black box algorithms, no vague formulas.
